• 1826 - Spencer, Lord Cavendish decides to travel to the newly acquired British port of Singapore to observe the growth of the The East India Company in another region.... the results were less than satisfying. Finding out that the purpose of the settlement was to facilitate the opium trade with China -- something that His Lordship does not support -- he leaves within a few years (1830) and goes to Hong Kong.
