This document focuses on Clan and Covenant status, City status remains unchanged. It is to provide guidance in conjunction with the Camarilla Addendum.
The status guidelines are left deliberately vague. They should be open to wide interpretation and are variable across different Clans and Covenants. Status levels should never be used as a "bullying" tool it is legitimate for a PC to personally lack respect for a high status PC within their Clan or Covenant, and to react accordingly. This is not carte blanche to ignore status publicly disrespecting high status Clan or Covenant members should bring with it the danger of negative consequences.
There are no hard and fast rules to determine a legitimate status approval application. Storytellers are free to use their judgment but should take the following into account. Status is not whether a character is liked or disliked, an enemy or a friend, it is an acknowledgement of whether they have respect or standing within a Clan or Covenant. There is no addendum requirement for any type of support "polling".
The negative modifier to status reflects that nations act as a "base of support" and that characters are better known and respected in that area. Those characters who have developed a wider and international acknowledgment, or are known nomads, can apply to remove the negative modifier.
Status 1 known locally as a very new, or unremarkable, member of the Clan or Covenant.
Status 2 known locally as a member of the Clan or Covenant of reasonable ability or standing.
Status 3 considered a local powerhouse whose reputation within the Clan or Covenant is also acknowledged to some extent in neighboring domains.
Status 4 considered to have an important influence over several domains, and whose reputation spreads significantly beyond just a single domain and across a wide area.
Status 5 a paragon of the Clan or Covenant, viewed as a leadership figure on a national level, with recognition of international importance.
(NB: Given membership numbers, it is appropriate that status 4 be considered of regionally important standing in the US affiliate, but might be considered as being of a national level in smaller affiliates)
It is not possible to openly hold dual Clan status. At least one of the Clan status merits must be kept secret. Unlike varying Covenant affiliation, you either are a Clan or you are not. Dual Clan status is aimed at infiltration. Storytellers should take this into account and be prepared to remove status approvals if the secrecy of dual Clan status is broken.
The sins against Clan or Covenant listed in MET Requiem p285 are a guideline and no more. A "sin" is whatever you can convince enough people of. Specific accusations do not have to be proven; the perception of wrongdoing or incompetence is enough to remove status, if widely enough acknowledged.
When a status strip is successful, there should be an OOC note on the same forum the original censure was made. There shouldnt be a further in-character note from the character who attempted the strip their criticism was the censure itself.
It is not legitimate for a targeted character to immediately call for a retaliatory strip. That call should wait. It is legitimate if the initial strip attempt fails. Publicly censuring someone and failing to gain support is certainly a fair reason to risk losing status.
Alder Cruzeiro is a status 5 Invictus. He has been asked to help interrogate an Invictus neonate in a neighboring domain. Alder Cruzeiro is busy, however, and instead instructs his vassal Michelle to act in his stead. Michelle is a status 2 Invictus, but while conducting the interrogation and related interactions she is considered to be "speaking with Cruzeiros voice" and treated as holding his status.
There are potential risks to loaning status. If it is loaned out to a character who uses it irresponsibly and stupidly, they acted in that way while speaking with your voice. That could be considered a completely legitimate reason to attempt a status strip.
Loaning status has to be for a specific purpose, you cant loan status in an undefined or permanent way.
Being well known is only the first requirement for a Kindred Legend. A legendary individual must also be iconic, archetypical, and uphold a strong sense of canon and theme. The 'legendary' characters are not "all the status 5's". They are characters with clearly identifiable purposes and stereotyping within the Requiem theme, they genuinely represent parts of the overall canon of the game. They should represent ideals (good or bad) and themes.
Kindred Legend 1 A character known for conducting great deeds above and beyond the usual. Clan or Covenant status 5 is not sufficient to justify Kindred Legend. Human equivalent General MacArthur, Alexander Graham Bell.
Kindred Legend 2 A character should have saved domains and regions purely through individual action, or made great discoveries provoking huge advances in Kindred nature. Human equivalent Napoleon, Galileo.
Kindred Legend 3 For an active player character to achieve this, they should effectively have held off a horde of several hundred werewolves entirely by themselves, thus saving an entire nation from destruction. Human equivalent Alexander the Great, Aristotle.
Kindred Legend 4 It is not normally possible for a player character to achieve this. Canon NPC equivalents the brides of Dracula, the Monachus.
Kindred Legend 5 Longinus and Dracula.
NB: It is worth noting that under this system The Unholy is not Kindred Legend 5. She might more reasonably be considered KL 2-3 on a global level, and KL 4-5 within the Gangrel subculture.
